Seoul’s Hangang Summer Festival opens on 26 July 2026 and runs through 24 August, transforming six riverside parks along the Han River into a month-long leisure zone with 18 distinct activities. The festival is free to attend and has been a fixture of the Seoul summer calendar since 2011.

Key Highlights This Year

Hangang Cinema Splash: One of the standout events of the 2026 edition, Cinema Splash sees inflatable floating platforms moored on the river from which participants watch Korean films while partially submerged in the water. Films are projected onto a large screen on the riverbank. Participation requires pre-registration through the Seoul City website and life jackets are provided.

Hangang Ship Race (15 August): Timed to coincide with Korea’s Liberation Day national holiday, the Hangang Ship Race is an annual dragon boat-style competition open to registered teams as well as spectator viewing from the banks. The Liberation Day holiday means the surrounding area will be busy - arriving early is advisable.

Night Swimming Zones: Designated swimming areas at Jamsil and Yeouido parks open in the evenings, with lifeguards on duty and changing facilities available until 22:00.

Watercraft Rentals and Leisure Activities: Paddle boards, kayaks, and electric boats are available for hire at multiple parks throughout the festival period.

Festival Parks

The 2026 festival operates across: Gwangnaru, Ttukseom, Jamsil, Nanji, Mangwon, and Yeouido Han River Parks. Not all activities run at every park - Cinema Splash is based at Ttukseom and Yeouido.

Practical Information

  • Access: All major Han River parks are reachable by Seoul Metro; Ttukseom is served by Ttukseom Resort station (Line 2)
  • Cost: Most activities are free; watercraft rental and some ticketed events carry separate charges
  • Hours: Daytime activities typically run 10:00–22:00; night swimming zones close at 22:00
  • Registration: Cinema Splash and the Ship Race require advance registration via the Seoul Metropolitan Government website, which opens registration approximately two weeks before each event
