South Korea: Typhoon Bavi Triggers 44 Cancellations and 416 Delays Nationwide

Super Typhoon Bavi, combining with South Korea’s peak monsoon season (jangma), caused widespread aviation disruption on 8–9 July 2026, with 44 flights cancelled and 416 delayed across the country’s four major airports: Incheon International, Gimpo, Gimhae (Busan), and Jeju.

Korean Air, Air Busan, All Nippon Airways, China Eastern, Eastarjet, Lufthansa, and American Airlines were all affected. Routes between South Korea and Guam, Saipan, Japan, and Taiwan were among the first to be suspended.

Most Affected Airports

  • Incheon International (ICN) - international routes to Guam, Saipan, Taipei, and Osaka disrupted
  • Jeju (CJU) - multiple domestic services cancelled as wind and rain intensified
  • Gimhae (PUS) - regional and domestic disruption, particularly Busan–Jeju corridor
  • Gimpo (GMP) - domestic and short-haul regional delays

Typhoon Bavi Track

At its peak, Bavi carried sustained winds of 180 km/h and was tracking towards Okinawa before curving north. Combined with the jangma monsoon front, it is producing exceptionally heavy rainfall across the Korean Peninsula. The Korea Meteorological Administration has issued official warnings for coastal and inland flood risk.

  • Domestic travellers: if travelling between Seoul and Jeju, confirm operating status - this route sees high cancellation rates in typhoon conditions
  • International connections: passengers transiting through Seoul from long-haul routes should contact their carrier to assess impact on connecting flights

Conditions are expected to ease as the typhoon continues north and the monsoon front shifts later in the week.
