Getting to Andong from Seoul and Other Cities

Andong is located in the inland area of North Gyeongsang Province, approximately 180 km east of Seoul. From Seoul by KTX-Eum Train

The fastest route from Seoul to Andong is the KTX-Eum tilting train, which runs from Seoul Cheongnyangni Station (accessible via Seoul Metro Line 1, 5, and Gyeongui-Jungang Line). This is not the same as Seoul Station - check the departure point carefully when booking.

Journey time: approximately 2 hours. Fares: approximately KRW 27,000–32,000 for a standard seat as of 2026. First-class (Nodaji seats) costs more. Trains operate several times daily; departures are more frequent on weekday mornings and afternoon peak hours. Andong Station is about 15 minutes on foot from the Jjimdak Alley area, and city buses to Hahoe Folk Village (bus 46) depart from the bus terminal adjacent to the station.

From Seoul by Express Bus

Express buses to Andong depart from Seoul Gangnam Express Bus Terminal (강남고속터미널, Exit 1–7 from Gangnam station, Line 7/9; or Gyeongbu Line from Seoul Express Bus Terminal). The Andong terminal stop in Seoul is served by multiple bus companies throughout the day.

Journey time: approximately 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours (longer during peak traffic on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons). Fares: approximately KRW 14,000–17,000 for a standard bus as of 2026; premium Udeung-seok (premium seat) services are approximately KRW 20,000–24,000. Buses depart roughly every 20–30 minutes from approximately 06:00 to 22:00.

Daegu is the nearest major city to Andong. Direct express buses run from Daegu Bukbu Intercity Bus Terminal (대구 북부시외버스터미널) to Andong. Journey time: approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Fare: approximately KRW 9,000–11,000 as of 2026. Buses run throughout the day.

There is no direct train connection between Daegu and Andong on the standard KTX network; the express bus is the better option.

From Busan

Direct buses run from Busan Nopo-dong Intercity Bus Terminal (부산 노포동 시외버스터미널) to Andong. Journey time: approximately 2 hours 30 minutes. Fare: approximately KRW 18,000–22,000 as of 2026. Frequency is lower than from Seoul - check schedules in advance via the Kobus app or terminal.

An alternative is to take a train or bus to Daegu and connect there, which can offer more frequent departure times.

Getting Around Andong

Andong city centre is navigable on foot. For Hahoe Folk Village, city bus 46 departs from Andong Bus Terminal and takes approximately 40 minutes (fare approximately KRW 1,500 as of 2026). The last bus back from Hahoe to central Andong typically runs around 17:30–18:00; confirm the return schedule on arrival at the village to avoid missing it.

For Bongjeongsa Temple, bus 54 runs from the bus terminal in approximately 45 minutes. For Dosan Seowon, bus 67 takes approximately 50 minutes. Taxis are readily available from the central bus and train terminal area and are metered - short hops within the city cost approximately KRW 4,000–6,000 as of 2026.
