A panoramic view of Jeju Island's volcanic coastline at sunset during a two-week Korea trip

Two weeks in South Korea allows a proper circuit covering the country’s main draws: Seoul’s urban culture and palace heritage, Jeonju’s food and architecture, Gyeongju’s archaeological sites, Busan’s coast and seafood, and Jeju Island. Here is a practical 14-day plan.

Days 1–2 — Seoul Arrival and Orientation

Day 1: Arrive at Incheon Airport. AREX to Seoul Station. Afternoon walk through the Gyeongbokgung area to orient yourself. Evening at a Korean BBQ restaurant in Mapo or Jongno.

Day 2: Gyeongbokgung Palace and the National Folk Museum (morning). Bukchon Hanok Village (midday). Insadong and Cheonggyecheon Stream (afternoon). Gwangjang Market for dinner.

Days 3–4 — Seoul Deeper

Day 3: Changdeokgung Palace and Secret Garden (morning, guided tour required — book ahead). Walk to Naksan Park for views over the city walls. Afternoon in the Euljiro area — old printing district now home to independent bars and restaurants.

Day 4: Namsan Tower and Namsangol Hanok Village (morning). Afternoon in Myeongdong for the energy and cosmetics shopping, then Itaewon or Hongdae for the evening food and bar scene.

Days 5–6 — Jeonju

Day 5: KTX from Seoul to Jeonju (1 hour 45 minutes). Check in to a hanok guesthouse in the Hanok Village. Afternoon exploring the village, Gyeonggijeon Shrine, and Jeondong Cathedral. Evening at a makgeolli tavern in the Samcheon-dong area.

Day 6: Full Jeonju day: dolsot bibimbap for lunch at an established restaurant near the village (order early — peak lunch queues are significant). Afternoon walk through the wider village and the traditional market. Second evening in Jeonju.

Days 7–8 — Gyeongju

Day 7: Bus or train from Jeonju to Gyeongju (around 3 hours with connection; check routing). Late afternoon: Daereungwon Tumuli Park and a walk around the Anapji Pond complex in the evening when it is lit up.

Day 8: Gyeongju heritage full day: Gyeongju National Museum (free), Cheomseongdae Observatory, and Bulguksa Temple. Afternoon: Seokguram Grotto if time and energy allow. Dinner in Gyeongju and overnight.

Days 9–10 — Busan

Day 9: KTX or local train from Gyeongju to Busan (1 hour). Check in. Afternoon at Gamcheon Culture Village. Evening at Jagalchi Market for fresh seafood dinner.

Day 10: Haedong Yonggungsa Temple in the morning (go early). Haeundae Beach and promenade at midday. BIFF Square for street food in the afternoon. Gwangalli Beach in the evening for the bridge views.

Days 11–12 — Jeju Island

Day 11: Fly Busan Gimhae (PUS) to Jeju (CJU) — around 55 minutes. Rent a car on arrival. Afternoon driving the east coast via Seopjikoji headland and the fields toward Seongsan Ilchulbong. Overnight in Jeju City or eastern Jeju.

Day 12: Drive to Seogwipo on the south coast. Cheonjiyeon Waterfall and the Jusangjeolli basalt columns. Abalone porridge (jeonbokjuk) for lunch. Afternoon on the Olle coastal trail near Jungmun Beach. Overnight in Seogwipo.

Days 13–14 — Jeju and Departure

Day 13: Hallasan National Park. Take the Seongpanak trail (eastern approach) to the summit crater lake (4.5–5 hours return). This is the most demanding day of the itinerary — start by 07:00 to make the summit cut-off time. The trail is well-marked; bring water and snacks. Evening in Jeju City.

Day 14: Return rental car. The afternoon before departure: Manjanggul Lava Tube (1 km section open; 30 km east of the city) if there is time before your flight. Fly out of Jeju International Airport (CJU) or connect via Incheon for international departures.

Optional Additions

East Coast Extension (swap Days 5–6 Jeonju for this): Instead of Jeonju, take an overnight east coast route: Seoul to Gangneung by KTX (2 hours) for the Anmok coffee street and Gyeongpo Beach, then Gangneung to Sokcho by bus (1.5 hours) for Seoraksan National Park. This adds the mountain and coastal landscape dimension that the main itinerary above does not cover.

Andong and Hahoe Village: Easily reached from Gyeongju (1.5 hours by bus). Andong’s Hahoe Folk Village is one of the best-preserved traditional villages in Korea. Adding a half-day or overnight here adds context on Joseon rural life.

Key Logistics

  • Book KTX in advance via the Korail website or app — particularly the Seoul–Jeonju–Gyeongju–Busan corridor
  • Domestic flights (Busan–Jeju) book through Korean Air, Jeju Air, or Jin Air; fares are cheapest 2–3 weeks ahead
  • Car hire on Jeju Island requires an international driving permit; book in advance for spring and autumn peak seasons
  • Naver Maps handles all navigation; download the app before departure

For guided tours at heritage sites, coasts, and national parks along this route, some advance booking is recommended, particularly for peak spring and autumn dates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is two weeks enough to see South Korea properly?
Two weeks is a comfortable duration for the main circuit — Seoul, the central and southern historic sites, Busan, and Jeju. You will need to skip some things (Gangwon Province's east coast, for instance, or Andong) unless you are strategic about pace. It is enough to feel like you have experienced the country rather than just ticked off sites.
Should I include Jeju Island in a two-week South Korea trip?
Yes, if it interests you. Three nights on Jeju Island fits comfortably into a two-week itinerary and the island is distinct enough from the mainland to justify the short domestic flight. Flying Busan to Jeju (1 hour) at the end of the mainland circuit works well.
What is the most efficient transport route for two weeks in South Korea?
Fly into Seoul (Incheon), travel south by KTX to Jeonju, Gyeongju, and Busan, then fly from Busan to Jeju. This avoids backtracking. Alternatively, the east coast route (Seoul, Gangneung, Sokcho, and back) can replace the Jeonju leg if mountains and coast are preferred over historic cities.
